Leeds is a city in West Yorkshire, England. It is located on the River Aire and is the urban core of the City of Leeds metropolitan district.
Leeds has a population 719,000, the second largest of any Metropolitan District in England

Leeds is a great place to shop. From the the Corn Exchange to the exquisite Victoria Quarter and the endless mountain of goodies within Kirkgate Market, Leeds caters for everyone's needs. There are also plenty of opportunities to refuel with the wide variety of cafes and restaurants.
A further 500 million pound retail led development on the Harewood and Eastgate Quarters in the city centre is now in the pipeline. Shopping in Leeds continues to improve. Briggate is one of the latest areas to have been modernised.
Leeds has become known as the Knightsbridge of the North. The diverse range of shopping, from individual one-off boutiques to large department stores, including Harvey Nichols and Louis Vuitton, has greatly expanded the Leeds retail base. The Victoria Quarter, several existing arcades connected by roofing the entirety of Queen Victoria Street with stained glass, is the jewel in Leeds' shopping crown, located off Briggate, Leeds' main shopping street. Other popular shopping attractions include the Corn Exchange, Leeds Kirkgate Market, Granary Wharf, Leeds Shopping Plaza, Headrow Shopping Centre, The Light, The St John's Centre, The Merrion Centre Leeds, Crown Point, Birstall Retail Park and the White Rose Centre. In addition, there are 2 proposed shopping centres, namely the Eastgate Quarter and Trinity Quarter.
Like many cities, Leeds can be divided into various quarters, the Northern Quarter, the Corn Exchange and the two universities, each home to a range of venues that make a great night.
The city is just filled to bursting with great places to eat, with options ranging from cafes to exquisite restaurants for fine dining, all within easy reach.
Leeds is well known for good nights out. As well as the usual high street suspects, the city has a fantastic array of independent bars and clubs.
Leeds is a cultural city. It hosts the Leeds International Pianoforte Competition and the Leeds International Film Festival. Outstanding productions and performances are showcased at venues such as The West Yorkshire Playhouse and Leeds Town Hall. It is the only city outside London to have both its own opera and ballet companies, the internationally acclaimed Opera North and Northern Ballet.
